You Will

Global Girl Scouting is responsible for integrating a global lens throughout Girl Scouts of the USA to ensure that girls develop into responsible global citizens. The work of the department ranges from developing our global strategy to global advocacy and partnerships and informing global programming.

The Global Girl Scouting Intern will support the team in two of its key areas; global strategy and global advocacy work. Global Girl Scouting team is in the process of developing a national Global Strategy that will be presented to organizational leadership in Fall 2024. The Global Girl Scouting intern will play a key role in supporting the team as they work to analyze data, coordinate the global strategy working group and develop the national global strategy.

Girl Scouts of the USA has Special Consultative Status at the United Nations and works to bring the voice and issues of its members to the international community while also working to educate its members of key global issues impacting girls. The Global Girl Scouting intern will work with the team to support the organizations work at key sessions, meetings and events at the United Nations with a focus on planning and preparation for 2024 International Day of the Girl and 2024 Summit of the Future.

This intern will have the opportunity to interact and learn about the Global Girl Scouting, Public Policy, and Advocacy teams during the summer & fall semester internship from May - August 20204. Time commitment is 35 hours per week. The role can be based in either New York or Washington DC.

The intern will develop an increased understanding of Girl Scouts of the USA, operations of National and International NGOs and the importance of strategic partnerships and advocacy. They will develop skills in advocacy, strategy development, partnership management, research and collaboration.

Intern Responsibilities:

    Provide support for the planning of GSUSA's activities in the lead up to and at the 2024 UN Summit of the Future and 2024 International Day of the Girl.
  • Support the Global Strategy Working Group with gathering and analysis of discussion group notes and recordings.
  • Assist with additional market research to support the work of the global strategy working group.
  • Support team in global advocacy efforts beyond Summit of the Future.
  • Support Global Girl Scouting team as projects and needs arise.
  • Connect with Global Girl Scouting, Public Policy & Advocacy teams, and others to learn about GSUSA and department initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in full-time college/graduate program
  • Knowledge and understanding of global issues & global education with an interest in global advocacy
  • Experience/interest in program development
  • Strong project management skills including organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to strategize and effectively communicate creative ideas
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Ability to take direction and initiative
  • Bilingual speaker a plus but not required
  • Based in Washington DC or New York, NY

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are variable M-F with a 35 hour per week schedule.

SALARY RANGE: $18.00 - 20.00 per hour
